International Student Programs
International Students who student at Norwood Morialta High School are supported by the International Programs Assistant Principal, Bilingual School Support Officers, School Counsellors and highly experienced, compassionate teaching staff.
Students live in Homestay Accommodation with homestay families which are organised and approved by the South Australian Government Schools International Education Services (IES) department and supported by the school.
The International Programs offered at Norwood Morialta High School include:
This course is provided for students who need to develop their English language proficiency before they enter the High School Graduate Program. This course is conducted on the Senior Campus.
Overseas students complete the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) and prepare for University and further education. A broad range of subjects is available to suit student needs and interests.
Students can begin at the Middle Campus in Years 8 to 10 or at the Senior Campus in Years 11 or 12.
Students may need to complete ten to twenty weeks in the Intensive Secondary English Course, which is available on the Senior Campus, prior to entering the High School Graduate Program.
Overseas students join our school program for periods from three months to one year and can study subjects that may not be offered in their own school. Students learn about Australian culture, improve their English and integrate with local students.
Visits of one to two weeks for groups of students from overseas schools. Programs are tailored for each group and usually involve English lessons, cultural excursions, school experience program, and subjects such as Art and Physical Education. Students are normally hosted by families within the school and local community.
SISTER SCHOOL EXCHANGES AND OVERSEAS CULTURAL TOURS
Norwood Morialta High School students may participate in a number of overseas tours. These include a long standing sister school exchange with Takahashi High School in Japan, and cultural tours to Italy, Greece and China.
Each year the school welcomes exchange students for periods ranging from one term to one year, through programs arranged by approved exchange organisations such as Rotary Youth Exchange Australia, Southern Cross Cultural Exchange and AFS Intercultural Programs. Students come from countries such as Brazil, Chile, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and USA. Norwood Morialta High School students may also apply through these organisations to undertake a student exchange to an overseas country. Scholarships are also available to assist with such exchanges.
The school also hosts a number of reciprocal student exchanges, for periods ranging from one to three months, with overseas education providers and with our sister schools. These exchanges are advertised throughout the school year via language classes, bulletin notices and school newsletters (available on the school’s website).
ADULT TRAINING PROGRAMS
Norwood Morialta High School successfully hosts Professional Development programs for International Leaders and Educators. Programs are flexible and organised according to the needs of the visiting group.
Individual teacher training programs are also offered via Language Assistance Programs and teacher work shadowing or observation programs. Homestay for individual teachers may be supported by the school.
