Norwood Morialta High School hosts short term visits of one to two weeks for groups of students from overseas schools. Programs are tailored for each group and usually involve English lessons, cultural excursions, a school experience program and subjects such as Art, Food and Hospitality, STEM and Physical Education.
Our Study Tours include tours from Japanese schools including Hosei University Junior High School in March each year, Koishikawa Secondary Education School in August each year and Ritsumeikan Junior High School in November each year. We also host study tours from China and Thailand on occasions.
Students are preferably hosted by families within the school and the local community. Homestay families are required to provide accommodation and meals, transport their study tour student to and from the school each day, and provide packed lunches and snacks during the school week.
Weekend activities are provided by the host families. These can include visits to the beach, Central Market, Adelaide Hills, Morialta Conservation Park, Haighs Chocolate factory, family picnics and barbeques, sports, and shopping. A small payment is made to host families to support such activities.
Being a homestay family means inviting an overseas student to become a part of your family and is a wonderful opportunity to share and experience a different culture. For students studying the language of the Study Tour student, it is a great opportunity to further develop their skills in this language. For many students and families, this relationship can last well beyond the visit to Australia as lifelong friendships are forged.
The school manages its own homestay program for these Study Tours. It is now a legal requirement that a staff member from our International Programs visits your home to check suitability for having a student. Every person over the age of 18 living in your household will need to have a Department of Communities and Social Inclusion (DCSI) Child Related Employment screening check completed. The school will arrange this screening and cover any costs involved. At the home visit, more detailed information about the Study Tour will be discussed and you will have the opportunity to ask any questions.
Families who would like more information about becoming a Homestay Family should contact the school on telephone 8364 2299 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Alternatively, you can submit your application online using the link below, or offline by downloading the Homestay Application Form and returning it to the school.
