Early dismissal on Wednesday afternoons

Welcome to our new and continuing families to the 2020 school year.

In preparation for the new school year we wish to remind families of the school’s early dismissal every Wednesday afternoon.

At Norwood Morialta High School teachers engage in quality professional learning time each week. This unique and valued opportunity provides time for teachers and leaders to collaborate in teams to improve teaching practice and learning outcomes for our students. Students have benefited from this learning with the introduction of new personalised teaching and learning programs that have ensured student success. This has particularly been evident in our recent outstanding SACE results.

In 2020 the professional learning community (PLC) time will continue to be conducted on Wednesday afternoons and students will be dismissed from school at 1:20pm.

Our collective staff focus will be to develop a deeper understanding of curriculum differentiation to support improved learning outcomes for each student. We will begin formal development of a new 7-12 curriculum model in preparation for the introduction of the Year 7 students, the new IB Diploma Program and the co-location onto one site from 2022.

The school understands that some students will be unable to leave school at this time and for this reason, we will provide supervision in the Dunstan Learning Community. Students who remain at school will undertake a modified program, including a lunch break, homework activities and community service. Based on our previous experience and community feedback we believe most families are in a position to make alternative arrangements for this time.

For organisational purposes we ask that parents/caregivers of students who need to remain at school, to register their student by emailing Student Services – dl.0787.studentservices@schools.sa.edu.au before the start of the school year.

We request that families discuss the early dismissal arrangements and appropriate travel practices with their student to ensure their safety and well-being when travelling to and from school. Students are also reminded to avoid visiting local stores and fast-food restaurants in large groups, to adhere school expectations and to present themselves positively in public.

Please do not hesitate to contact a member of the Middle Campus Management Team on 8365 0455 if you have any further questions requiring clarification.
